1. Let good happen.

It’s hard to believe that anyone would reject happiness. But, you’d be surprised. Often times things come into our lives that have the full capability to contribute to our happiness, but just as often, we tend to push them away. Why? A horrific, destructive four lettered monster: fear. Almost everyone does it, and usually we do it obliviously. Recognize this habit, and CHANGE it. Instead of leaping out of the way when you’re frightened by the thought of the outcome, figure out how you can make the outcome work to your favor. The entire universe is in your hands, take advantage of that. Fear is one of the most detrimental factors to our happiness. Let good happen.

2. If it’s not making you happy, it has no place in your life.

It’s more than okay to clean out your closet. If it’s not a source of joy for you, why would you keep it around? There is no need to subject yourself to unhappiness or the things that cause it. Surround yourself with positivity, anywhere it can be found. It’s not always easy to let go of things, even if they’re no longer doing you good. But when you clear out the negative pieces of your life (whether its a person, a relationship, a job or a habit), you make room for new opportunities. If it’s not making you happy, it has no place in your life.

3. You deserve good things. (As long as you think you do..)

As long as you carry a mindset that you do not deserve happiness, you will NOT find it. Sadness simply causes more sadness. Let me help you factual people out. (No worries. I’m one of them.) For every hour you think gloomy thoughts, your body has produced approximately 18 billion cells with receptors that call for more depressed-type peptides than positive, feel-good peptides.

4. Make your body happy.

Recently it’s been brought into light that a vital part of emotional health, is physical health. Our emotional and physical health are so strongly connected, that how you treat your body plays a HUGE role in how happy you are. Sunlight (Vitamin D) helps tremendously to increase your serotonin, the mood neurotransmitter. Exercise in any form releases endorphins, which is known as the ‘”feel good chemical.” Releasing endorphins creates feelings of happiness and euphoria. It’s been described as a natural “high.” Endorphins are also what is released when you laugh and smile. I cannot stress enough the magnitude of a good exercise’s effects on your emotional health.

Although exercise and sunlight will definitely help you to be happy, what you put into your body is just as important. Dark chocolate, chicken, and avocado are just a few of the delicious wonders that are scientifically proven to boost your mood. Generally eating healthier foods will help you to feel better, physically and mentally. Hearing the words “eat healthy” can seem daunting, but reaching out and try new things will really benefit you in the end. There are so many foods out there guaranteed to make your taste-buds feel good too. Food is miraculous. Make your body happy.

5. Give what you lack.

The universe works in beautiful ways, and you get what you put into it. So give what you need the most. Whether it be love, compassion, guidance, or just some lighthearted fun, give. Give until you feel as though you have nothing left to give, and then give some more. In the grand scheme of things, this is one of the most rewarding things about life.

“When you look at the world with an eye toward how you can give, instead of simply focusing on what you can get, the thing you desire will beat a path to your door.” – Darren Hardy
