Don’t Let Your Fear Of Rejection Hold You Back From Telling Them How You Really Feel

By

You never know what might happen, if you just tell them how you feel.

It doesn’t require courage to keep your feelings hidden, and your heart guarded. Anyone can do that. It takes rare strength to put yourself out there, be emotionally vulnerable and honest.

What’s the worst that could happen? They could reject you. Then it isn’t meant to be, and you’ll find someone else. They could laugh at you. Then you’ll know they weren’t mature enough to handle your love with grace. They could hurt your self-esteem. Then you’ll develop a stronger sense of self-worth that is not dependent on external validation.

A slight bruise to your ego is a small price to pay for something as beautiful, rare and worthy as love. Love is too important to miss and too big to ignore, don’t lose it over something as petty as misread signals, unspoken words and a bunch of regrets.

You’re afraid? Maybe they’re scared of being overwhelmed too. You’re too proud to admit it? Maybe they’re as proud as you, but don’t forget that stubborn people have stubborn hearts, so they might still care about you. You made a mistake, and think they won’t give you a second chance? Everyone is human, and they’ve probably done dumb shit too. What if they found somebody else? They might have, or they might still be searching for you in everyone they meet. What if they don’t even know how you feel? Then it will be a pleasant surprise. What if they’ve forgotten you? If you had a genuine connection, if you really touched their soul, then the feelings were real, and they won’t forget you.

What if you’re unsure about whether this will work? What if your relationship fails? It could, but you’ll never know unless you give it a try.

What if it too much time has passed, and it’s too late?

The beautiful thing about time is that it gives you perspective. It shows you things in hindsight that you didn’t notice in the heat of the moment. Time waits for no one, and changes everyone. A lot can happen in a year, and even a few months or weeks. They are already a different person from when you last met them, and there is so much you don’t know.

There are a hundred million reasons as to why it could work, and only one as to why it wouldn’t. If it doesn’t work, then it was something bigger than you, and completely out of your control. You tried your best, and you won’t look back on your life wishing that you hadn’t let go of the something so good, because you were too blind to appreciate it then. At the end, you won’t regret all the things you did, but all the things you didn’t. They might reject you, and it will hurt you, but you’ll eventually move on to bigger and better things.

After all of this, what if they still say no? Then let it be a reminder as to how you shouldn’t let your past experiences interfere with your future possibilities. Let it be a reminder as to how fragile people and relationships can really be.

Of course, they could say no, but what if they say yes?
