Here Is How You Will Bury The People That Almost Destroyed You

Bury the people who tried to destroy you. Dig a grave, somewhere deep inside your mind. Dig a grave for the ones that caused you such intense pain that you still wake up sometimes at night with their faces fresh in your mind. The people who abused you in the worst possible way, the boss who smiled whilst firing you out of the blue when you really needed the money, the boyfriend who used you and threw you away, the girl who only wanted to be with you when things were bad and forgot you during the good times, the people who claimed to be your friends before humiliating you to everyone you cared about, the list is not exhaustive but you have got to bury those people.

Reading this, you’re going to think, this is easier said than done. How can you forget the betrayal, the hurt, the pain people caused you just like that? The truth is, it takes time – sometimes months. Healing is a complicated process, especially when it comes to people because people are complicated. But think of it like this: when a wound is fresh, it bleeds, it aches, it causes you intense and horrible pain and you feel like you’ll never get over it. And slowly as days pass, it heals, the pain slowly becomes a throb, and eventually all that is left is a scar that reminds you of the pain you once experienced.

That is how you must treat the pain they caused you. As a wound that needs to heal. And the rest of it will follow. Close your eyes and imagine all the people that love you. Every single one of them. Think of all of your happiest moments, the great amounts of joy they gave you. Replicate them every time you feel yourself going down the dark path of heartache and pain because you are remembering the way you were betrayed. Because you are remembering those that hurt you. That is how you will bury them. Beneath good memories and beautiful stories and the incredible things that make your life worth living and believe me the moment you realise this, the more you will enjoy this gift that is your life.

I want you to remember this more than anything in the whole world: No one who hurt you, who betrayed you, who has never apologised for the pain they have caused you is worth your mental health, a place in your heart or the taste of acid on your tongue when you speak their name. What they deserve is erasure, being forgotten, being totally inconsequential whilst you pursue every hope and dream you have ever had in mind or in heart.

Take every single person who lessened your shine and bury their memory, without mercy under glow of everything that makes you who you are. And who you are right now, in this moment, is a living, breathing example of how you can survive hell and still, still keep shining. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
