When You Wish You Could Be Everything You’re Not

Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You. —Dr. Seuss

When you wish your dark brown hair were blonde and your brownish eyes were blue, remember that it doesn’t matter, because if you’re always going to wish you are something that you’re not you will never be able to love everything that you are.

When you wish your eyebrows were thicker and your nose was smaller remember that it’s all irrelevant because when you discover the beauty in things that are intangible like love and joy and happiness, it is not the width of your eyebrows that sustains you, but your ability to let these emotions live and be fully embraced.

When you wish your shy and quiet smile was a loud and boisterous laugh, remember all of the people whose day that smile brightened.

When you wish your arms were stronger, and your legs were longer remember that the length of your stride does not determine how far you can walk, because your mind will take you farther.

When you wish you could dance like Beyoncé or sing like Whitney Houston, remember that at the end of the day we’re all human and even those who are masters of their craft have weaknesses.

When you wish you were smarter, prettier, thinner, more daring and carefree, when you wish you were more like her or him, or anyone else that you could never possibly be, remember that the world is so big, and full of so many people, but there is only and will only ever be one you. And that alone is beautiful.
