2. Brooklyn Nine-Nine

I’ve never been a huge Andy Samberg fan, as he has that Jimmy Fallon way of always looking amused by his own jokes. However, Parks and Recreation’s Michael Schur and Dan Goor find the best possible use for him as the cocky lead detective on a Brooklyn Police Force, the Jeff Winger of the bunch. Schur and Goor make the best of his natural charm, giving him a ridiculously stacked ensemble to play off. Standouts include Stephanie Beatriz as a Donna Meagle-type, Terry Crews as a cop suffering from mannequin-related PTSD and a never-better Andre Braugher. Braugher plays the team’s openly gay captain, a no-nonsense cop who’s waited years for the chance to run his own force and determined not to let Samberg fuck it up.

Like the newborn baby it is, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is all formula and composed entirely of cliches. However, that’s not to the show’s disadvantage. It took Parks and Rec and The Office a couple seasons to find their groove, but after just a few episodes, Brooklyn is already one of the funniest shows on TV, like Barney Miller for a new generation. If it continues to mature in the same way its predecessors did, I can’t wait to see what happens to Samberg and company when they grow up.
