4. The Women
In some ways, The Women was startlingly ahead of its time in its vision of gender equality. This is a movie in a male-dominated system completely populated by women, where not a single male character is seen in the two-plus-hour run time. Yet the movie’s moral message about infidelity is bizarre. The Women literally says that a woman in love should just look the other way if he husband is cheating on her — because when it comes to love, there’s no such thing as pride. I’m all about forgiveness, but you have to earn it. No person owes their partner anything.
