Starving For Perfection

By

Nobody’s perfect so why do people starve and strive for perfection?

What do we really expect from the world and ourselves? What is the perfect state we strive for? Have you ever caught yourself sitting around thinking that if you were “just” a bit different when it comes to this or that, you would be so much more desirable, wealthy, or good-looking? What would your life be like if you appreciated your imperfections as the signature of your soul?

Considering yourself perfect or not is an important topic for almost everyone that would like to live a happy life. It seems to me that most people feel they are lacking or imperfect. Due to their belief, they spend a lot of money, a lot of time and a lot of anxiety, trying to achieve a goal that moves further away with every accomplishment.

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience encounter head-on. For instance, you lose quite a lot of weight and now you feel that the skin on your face seems to be hanging in a strange way.

Discipline is the bridge between goal and accomplishments. It is one of the ironies of this strange life that those who work the hardest, subject themselves to the strictest discipline.. giving up certain pleasurable things in order to achieve a goal, and to be happy. It is a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you often get it. The only way to find the limits of the possible is by going beyond them to the impossible. A failure establishes only this, that our determination to succeed was not strong enough. Is life that unfair, or is the problem simple that we tend to chase the unreal image of ourselves? Do you try to make it appear as if you have no flaws? On the other hand, do you relish your flaws to add to your uniqueness?

I found out that it is important to go beyond the oppositional thinking of right or wrong, good or bad and in the process, accept, and fall in love with who you really are. Go as far as you can see, and when you get there, you will see farther. The tragedy of life does not lie in not reaching your goal but the tragedy lies in having no goal to reach. It is not a calamity to die with dreams unfulfilled, but it is a calamity to not dream. It is not a disgrace not to reach the stars, but it is a disgrace to have no stars to reach for.

The more I stop trying to be perfect, the more I discover just how perfect I already am. Uh. No, I’m not conceited. 😉 I just say to myself, “I don’t want to look like who I used to be. I want to look like who I am.”

How about you? Have you had any chance trying to cover up your perfection, in any attempt to appear perfect? There is nothing more special than simply being yourself and realizing that any subtraction or addition, would simply take away from who you really are. Why not be that person who’s close to perfection like other people do? But, who cares? It is not for them why you live here, it is for yourself and God. Nobody’s perfect, only He is. Assert your right to make a few mistakes. If people cannot accept your imperfections, then that is their fault. 🙂
