Where Has Your Voice Gone?

Do you remember being a kid and expressing your opinions on everything without worrying about the repercussions? You were so much braver and open, unaware that people could judge you for your own thoughts. Everything seemed so much easier, so much better.

Now, that you’re all grown, you don’t possess the same courage. You’re worried about the opinions of others, and you constantly question yourself. You allow others to steer your life in the direction that doesn’t fill your heart with happiness. You stopped fighting for your voice to be heard and accepted. You stopped believing in yourself. In everything.

So where has your voice gone? That beautiful strong tenor and soprano that changed every single time you were talking about the things you loved, the things you cared about. What happened to that sound that allowed you to express who you are and who you want to become? It might not feel like it sometimes, but it’s still in there. It has always been there and will be forever – it’s just waiting to be allowed to scream again. To sing beautifully about your thoughts, and to marvel over the world and its wonders.

Your voice is waiting for you to give it a stage. To let it speak so that you can be listened to again. It wants to remind you that everything you have to say deserves to be heard. That you are more than you think you are. Your dreams, fantasies, and reflections are all waiting to be let out. You never know who’s listening. And they all want to listen.

So, let yourself be a child again. Speak freely, let your voice come back to you and speak for you. Don’t worry about being different, being judged – after all, everybody’s worried about their own voice. No one has enough time to be concerned with yours.

So use it.

But use it for good. Let your words be healing instead of hurting, beautiful instead of grim. Because you have a voice for a reason and thanks to it, you can change the world. You just have to let yourself be free from the constraints of the world and its obsession with keeping everyone quiet.

Scream, sing, speak your truth and be vocal about the things that are important to you. There are billions of people on the planet, and if no one dares to say anything, nothing will change. So be that first person to start a conversation. Do it as you please. Create your own way through your voice.

Your voice wants to let you be heard.

All you have to do is let it. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
