16 Essential Quotes Every Spirituality Seeking Person Needs To Know

By

Personally, I would be stoked to have my own sage/wizard/genie in a bottle just waiting around to walk me through yet another existential crisis. Since my fantasies aren’t likely to manifest into reality, I’m stuck with reading the sickeningly spiritual works of amazing dead guys (and girls) to keep that every present (and often growing) soul suck of a black hole somewhat filled. Without further ado, here are 16 amazing quotes that have led me on a path of meditation and seeking a being greater then myself, that some call “God”… Which I prefer remains nameless.

1. “Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment” – Rumi

2. “Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given to you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.” -Rainer Maria Rilke

3. “Remember, remember, this is now, and now, and now. Live it, feel it, cling to it. I want to become acutely aware of all I’ve taken for granted.” –Syliva Plath

4. “Let ourselves be seen, deeply seen, vulnerably seen, to love with our whole hearts, even though there’s no guarantee… to practice gratitude and joy in those moments of terror… to say ‘I’m just so grateful because to feel this vulnerable means I’m alive’… to believe that we’re enough. Because when we work from a place, I believe, that says, ‘I’m enough’, then we stop screaming and start listening, we’re kinder and gentler to the people around us, and we’re kinder and gentler to ourselves.” –Brene Brown

5. “A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.” –Lao Tzu

6. “We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations.” -Anais Nin

7. “Pain or love or danger makes you real again.” – Jack Kerouac

8. 14. “The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade your reality for a role. You trade your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There can’t be any large-scale revolution until there’s a personal revolution, on an individual level. It’s got to happen inside first.” – Jim Morrison

9. “Scared and sacred are spelling with the same letters. Awful precedes from the same root word as awesome. Terrify and terrific. Every negative experience holds the seed of transformation.” – Alan Cohen

10. “Maybe love isn’t supposed to be comfortable. Maybe love is just supposed to be worth it.” – Debby Ryan

11. “Follow your inner moonlight. Don’t hide the madness.” – Allen Ginsburg

12. “The spiritual journey is individual, highly personal. It cannot be organized or regulated. It isn’t true that everyone should follow one path. Listen to your own truth.” – Ram Dass

13. “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” – Maya Angelou

14. “If you let your mind talk you out of things that aren’t logical, you’re going to have a very boring life. Because grace isn’t logical. Love isn’t logical. Miracles aren’t logical.” – Barbara DeAngelis

15. “We are travelers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity.” – Paulo Coelho

16. “Be crumbled. So wildflowers will come up where you are. You have been stony for too many years. Try something different. Surrender.” –Rumi
