4 Ways Traveling Will Drastically Improve Your Quality Of Life

By

One of my favorite quotes from Gustave Flaubert is, “Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” It’s dated from the 19th century but it is timeless. It reflects the notion of movement when one is abroad. It puts everything into perspective and make us realize we are just a tiny star in the galaxy.

Traveling is something that has always been in my blood. The first time I ever traveled was to visit family when I was about six months old. However, to me, travelling is not just about movement or visiting a new place or a new country. It has a wider importance. It makes you grow and evolve in a way you could have never predicted. No matter where you come from, where you are going and how long you are staying, you will always learn something about yourself (and others).

Reasons why travelling is (always) a good idea :

1. It gets you out of your comfort zone.

Trust me, there is no better way to do so than when you’re not home, hanging out with your people and talking in your mother tongue. You will feel uncomfortable at first, but then you will get used to the city and your work, and you will create new habits. You will feel like a new you and that you can accomplish anything in life. Isn’t it the best feeling?

Meet new people who have a different background, social status, or are from another country than yours. It is simple—when you travel you won’t be alone very long (if you do things right), especially now with social media. You can meet a new friend at the supermarket or via a chat group on Facebook. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that you will be able to see how other people live and what they think, and you’ll learn from them as much as they will learn from you. You will bring each other a new perspective on things.

2. It broadens your horizon.

How? Simply because you will be discovering a new place and new surroundings. Be careful and always keep your eyes open, darling!

3. It improves your general knowledge.

Being surrounded by new people and living in a different surroundings will automatically make you learn about it. You will learn about a new culture, a new way of living, and everything related to it: politics, literature, popular TV shows, and various type of music. You will see there are other types of things besides what you are used to in your home country. Every land has a History and a cultural knowledge that you must be interested in when you are there.

4. It gets you to know yourself better and faster.

This one seems pretty obvious. Unfortunately, if you don’t do the work to get out there, reflect on your actions and words, and look back at how far you have come, you won’t know yourself. Do it now.

So, where are you going next?
