My Love, You’re Not The Only One Who Feels This Way

By

My love,

You’re trying to hide under the bullshit stories you tell yourself every day. You’re trying to be what you think the world wants you to be. You’re tired and lost and you think you’re doing a good job of concealing it with not showing any emotions. You’re hiding what you feel and believing things about yourself that aren’t the truth.

You’re living a lie by denying who you are to yourself. You’re not the person that they see and you’re not the person that you think you want to be like. You’re not cold and cruel and immune to the world. You don’t not care.

You’re not happy all the time and you’re not here to save the world and you didn’t fail because you did try but you just couldn’t.

You’re not who you want me to think you are but I see you.

I see you in the sunshine and in the rain and in the snow and between half chugged beer and late sleepless nights. I get you dammit! I understand you and I want you to know that you’re not the only one.

You’re not the only one who doesn’t know what to do next and you’re not the only one who knows and still doesn’t do it. I do too, we all do.

And that’s okay, you’re not, not strong because you have fears. You’re brave and still so sturdy and that risk you’re not sure of? Take it.

I am lost and I feel scared and frightened and so tired some nights too.

You’re not the only one and I am not the only one and we don’t have to be alone to be strong.

You don’t have to prove anything to anyone and I don’t have to answer all the people that keep asking me questions. You can let go of your doubts and all that self-talk that says you’re not good enough because you are.

You are so special and kind and warm and beautiful. I am talking about all that is within you, all that love and buried optimism and so much compassion. Why can’t you let it out already?

You don’t have to be anything anyone wants you to be or do or say. You can be yourself and you can be scarred and uneven and raw. It’s okay, you survived and you fought like a champion and that’s all that ever mattered.

Open your eyes to all the wonderful things that you are and stop thinking about all that you aren’t because you’re not your first heartbreak and that exam you failed and the times you let people who love you down. You’re not your mistakes; you are what was left corrected once the mistake was made.

You’re perfect the way that you are and anyone that doesn’t see that isn’t seeing you but I am and let me tell you, I haven’t seen anything more fearless before. You’ve been hurt and bruised but you’re not broken and you are more than the ones that didn’t appreciate you.

I am sorry that the world hurt you but don’t let them keep hurting you by changing you into someone you don’t want to become. You are so much more than what you see and I can say this because I see you clearly.

It’s time you see yourself for who you are.

I see you and I like what I see and if you saw yourself for the person that you are, you would like yourself too. So go ahead and show me more. More of what you really are, the you that you were before you decided that this isn’t what you should be. You’re not a child that ever liked rules, I can tell! And this is your free pass for not letting anyone dictate your life ever again.

The you that I see isn’t made for captivity and the confined walls of your own bubble. And if you ever forget or wonder if anyone would like who you are or there comes a time that you aren’t sure of the person that you’ve become, I hope you see you like I see you.
