A Letter To My Future Wife, Part IV: Thank You For Always Being My Partner

Ivan Cabañas

We probably haven’t met each other at this stage of our lives. I’m probably still wondering where the hell you are in this big, wonderful, chaotic world, questioning whether or not fate will ever bring us together. I probably have not put all of the pieces together and discovered that you are the woman I’ve been waiting for my whole life.

It doesn’t matter what you are to me the day I’m writing this because all that matters is what you are to me the day you’re reading it. You are the best thing that ever happened to me, and that is an unequivocal fact. Thank you, for everything.

Thank you for being worth the wait. Thank you for being the reason all the heartache and pain suffered along the way was not in vain. Thank you for getting my hopes up and for proving to me why we should we never try to censor our emotions or restrain our excitement despite society constantly telling us to do otherwise.

Thank you for being my carpool karaoke companion, and for giving meaning to the love songs that have occupied my head and my heart through the years. Thank you for being the air guitar player in our band that ceases to exist outside the confines of the vehicle. Thank you for being my goofball.

Thank you for being my wedding date and my other half on the dance floor. Thank you for acting a fool with me when our jam comes on, and thank you for being unabashedly yourself. Thank you for being my fool.

Thank you for seeing that movie you probably didn’t want to see because you knew I wanted to. Thank you for going to that concert you probably didn’t want to go because you knew I was going to pre-order tickets the day it was announced. Thank you for going to the game when you’re probably not into sports because you knew it meant a lot to me.

Thank you for choosing me, when there are a million other guys you could have made just as happy. Thank you for letting me love you, and for the love you have given me. Thank you for giving me reason to belief that true love exists, and for the experience that comes along with it once it is found.

But perhaps most importantly, thank you for being my partner. Thank you for being my co-pilot as we navigate through life together, and for being my teammate against any obstacles that come our way.

Thank you for putting up with me when I’m difficult to deal with, and for sticking with me through the bad times. Thank you for your kindness, your understanding, and the warmth of your love. Thank you for being the best thing to ever enter my life.

Thank you for the world of happiness you have given me so far, and for the opportunity to spend the rest of my life with you showing our children what true love is and why the real thing is worth waiting for — no matter how long it takes. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
