You sit down to learn how to avoid problems instead of running around trying to solve them.
Tell people what they mean to you. Tell people what is on your mind. Tell people what is troubling you. A shoulder to cry on leads to a shoulder to stand upon.
Human beings are complex creatures no doubt, but deep down many of us just want to feel like our voice is being heard and we feel accepted. Likeable people understand this and make it a point to end each conversation in a way that reinforces that they were listening and that they care.
Traveling teaches you that you do not need much to have fun.
Drinking did make it easier to meet new people, I am not going to pretend that it didn’t. But out of the people I met while drinking I can count on one hand who I still have a good relationship with.
Confidence may come in all shapes and sizes, but the underlying characteristic of any confident person is that they take care of their own and give them the power to one day take care of others. My friends taught me that.

I may never live in America again, but I am cool with that — I have by my side the two people in the world who have given me the gift of “being me”. What’s more, had I not left, I would not have had the privilege of seeing America from both sides of the coin. And you know what? It’s made me love it even more.
