I Hope You Fall In Love With More Than Just People

I was six the first time I fell in love.

It was in New York City. I was at a theatre, and It was during the first Broadway show I had ever seen — The Secret Garden.

The lights dimmed, the orchestra hummed, and it was as if my heart had burst into a million pieces, and then those pieces worked their way back together into something bigger than I had ever known.

I was in love with musical theatre , and I have been in ever since.

I fell in love with the beauty of it all  —  the story, the lights, the words, the music, the actors, the set, the costumes, all of it. I fell in love with how I forgot where I was for two hours and 30 minutes. I fell in love with how the music got under my skin and how the stories stuck to my soul. I fell in love with how this story was being played out right before my very eyes. I fell in love with the fact that there was no screen separating me and the actors. They were there, breathing the same air that I was, hearing the same sounds, enveloped in the same story.

And that, for me, was magic.

For me, that was love.

Now, I hope you fall in love with people. I really do.

I hope you find the love that you have always dreamt of, the one that lifts you up, and supports you, and holds you close, and gives you space to bloom and blossom. I hope you find that special someone that you want to grow old with and have kids with, or just simply spend the rest of your life with.

I really hope you do.

And I’m rooting for you.

But I also hope you fall in love with things that are bigger than you, too. I hope you fall in love with art, and with science, and with politics, and with history, and with music, and with dance.

I even hope you fall in love with theatre, if that’s your thing.

There is so much to be loved about this world.

I hope you fall in love with life. TC mark
