I Hope You Learn That There Is Power In Your Anger

I hope you learn that there is power in your anger.

I hope you learn to feel that power from the tips of your fingers to all ten of your toes. I hope you learn to recognize the feeling when it comes – the tightness in your stomach, the quickness of your breath, the flutter in your chest. I hope you learn how to recognize that feeling and call it by its name – I hope you learn how to acknowledge it, too.

And I do hope you acknowledge it.

I hope you acknowledge it, I hope you feel it, and then I hope you channel it into something bigger than you – something that can be a force for good. For when you push your anger aside, or ignore it, or feed it – that anger festers, and grows, and eventually becomes who you are and what you do.

And I think you’re better than that. I think you can do better than that, too. I think we all can.

I hope you learn that when you lean into the negative power that is your anger, it will weigh you down. It will plant the seeds of paranoia, and betrayal, and mistrust within you. Those seeds will infiltrate your psyche, they will bleed into your relationships, your friendships, and every aspect of your life.

I hope you learn how to want more than that.

I hope you learn that you deserve more than that.

I hope you learn how to channel your anger into a force for good.

I hope you lean into the positive power of your anger. I hope you learn that your anger doesn’t have to define you, it doesn’t have to swallow you whole, and it doesn’t have to weigh you down. You don’t have to live in a space of anger to change the things that make you angry – it is possible to create change from a place of anger without speaking and acting with hostility and vitriol.

You can let your anger fuel you in changing the world, in righting the wrongs, in seeking justice and peace and joy for all.

I hope you learn that you can use the power of your anger without becoming an angry person.

There is a difference.

There is power in that lesson.
