I’ll Write You A Hug

By

Sometimes I spend find minutes reading news and comments on the internet, and my heart breaks. I want to fix the sadness, the anger, the despair. I want to make it all better. I want to stretch my arms out wide and give the whole world, internet and all, a hug.

I know I can’t. I know it’s silly. I know how big this world is, and that there’s so much that can’t be fixed with a hug. And yes, I even know that it’s physically impossible to hug the internet.

But it’s not impossible to write one.

I’ll write you a hug so big that it’ll make you laugh. It might even make you smile. The hug I hope to write you will remind you of the happiness that does exist in this world, and the goodness that exists within people, too.

I’ll write you a hug so big that you’ll forgive what hurt you in the first place. And in that act of forgiving, you’ll remember who you are, what you need, and what you are made of. You’ll remember that the things you need to survive, and better yet, thrive are inside of you.

I’ll write you a hug so big that your breathing will steady. Your tears will stop running. Your heart won’t hurt, and you won’t feel the weight of the world crushing your bones. I’ll write you a hug so big that you’ll be held – maybe for the first time in a while, maybe for the first time in your life. But you’ll feel the hug supporting you, and you’ll feel, and know, that you’re not alone.

Cause you’re not. You’re not alone. Remember that when the darkness of the world drowns out your light. Remember that when the internet trolls try to crush your spirit.

You are not alone.
