If Your Words Could Heal, What Would You Say To The People You Love?

If your words could heal, what would you say to the people you love?

I think you’d say, I am grateful that you are in my life. I am grateful that you are here. I am grateful for your presence, for your input, and for your advice. I want you to know that you fill my heart with gratitude. You remind me what it means to show up for another human, and I am so appreciative of that.

I appreciate you, too.

I think you’d say, I appreciate all you do for me, and for others. I appreciate your work, your gestures, your showing up. I appreciate that you call me out on my nonsense, but do it from a place of love. I appreciate that you see my flaws and love me anyway, and that you are not afraid to show me the path to becoming a better version of myself.

If your words could heal, what would you say to the people you love?

I think you’d say, I care about you. I care about your wants, and your needs, and your joy, and your pain. I care whether or not you are sad, and I want to be there so that you have someone to lean on. I care if you show up, I care if you would disappear, I care about what you are passionate about, and I care about how you take care of your heart.

I’m in awe of you, too.

I think you’d say I’m in awe of your resilience, of how you fight pain with passion. I’m in awe of your spirit, your compassion, your ability to stay positive and focus amidst chaos. I am struck with awe by all you do, and what you do on any given day, week, month, minute, or year inspires me to do better.

I think you’d say, I’m in awe of the way you love, and I love you, too.

I think you’d never wait to say, “I love you.” I think you’d let that pass through your lips as easily as air. I think you’d let it take up the space that surrounds you, and drink it in. I think you’d let your hearts spill over with love, and I think you’d say it whenever you felt it. I think you’d say, I love you. I see you. I am in love with you. You are what love means to me.
