5 Important Reminders For Everyone In Their 20s

When we’re in the moment, it’s hard to appreciate how truly fleeting it is. It’s really only when we pause, take a step back to reflect, and take a look at how far we’ve come that we realize how fast time passes. It almost seems that at the snap of your fingers, you wake up and years have passed. Let this be a reminder that when things are in complete and utter disarray around you and your life feels like a mess, everything will be okay, even if it doesn’t quite seem like it at the time. Here are five things to remember when you’re in your 20s.

1. If work sucks, you’re doing it wrong.

When you’re in your 20s, your priority should be to set yourself up on a path that you will wholeheartedly love and thrive in. It’s easy to chase the money. It’s easy to settle down in a career just because you “should.” But the reality is, you have your entire life to work. Now is the perfect opportunity to find yourself, find what you love, and set yourself up for a future that will ultimately make you feel happy and fulfilled. Never forget that life should be fun, and in every sense, so should your work.

2. Your opinion of yourself is the only one that matters.

When we’re young, it’s easy to allow the opinions of others to take precedence over your own. It’s very easy to follow the crowd and do what other people say you should. But as you get older, you will realize that if you don’t listen to yourself, then you will live your life with regret. You see, life is far too short to not be authentic to who you really are. The longer you wait to be who you truly are, the longer you will search for inner peace and happiness.

3. People do change. You will too.

As you navigate your way through the many ebbs and flows of your life’s journey, your interests, your passion, and even your friends may change along the way. That’s completely normal and totally okay! Give yourself permission to live as fully and as freely as you would like to. Without resistance, allow people to drift in and out of your story. Allow the chapters to flow effortlessly. This is a natural part of being human and a part of the beauty of the journey. This moment now is temporary and change could be exciting if you see it that way.

4. Your family will become your best friends.

When you’re young, all you want to do is get away from your family. But when you’re older, all you want to do is be closer to them. I believe this is because you don’t truly value your loved ones until you realize that with time, you may not always have them. While it’s dark to think this way, there is also light in knowing that right now you do. Appreciate, cherish, and love your family. They are a piece of you. They always will be.

5. You’re only young once.

The time to mess up, try new things, travel the world, and explore new ventures is now! Looking back, you’ll create memories to last a lifetime, but only if you stay open enough to experiencing the pleasures of being youthful. Have fun! This is a great time to be alive! But with that being said, the ending of a chapter brings about an entirely new one. Cherish the memories from your 20s, then get ready to thrive, grow, and become in your 30s! No matter where you are in your journey, there is something wonderful to be taken from all of life’s chapters. Don’t forget to enjoy the ride.
