How To Let Go Of Things That No Longer Serve You

Throughout our lives, we are constantly growing and evolving. We are constantly shifting and changing through our experiences, while constantly learning more about who we are and who it is we ultimately want to become. However, in doing so, there will inevitably be things and people that once served us that now don’t align with our truest selves. In times like these, we will be faced with a choice: Either let them go, or let them become us.

Although this choice we may have to face isn’t always easy, there is almost always a clear-cut answer, and that is to let go. To let go of the things that no longer serve you and instead surround yourself with the things and people that do. Because otherwise, you’ll lose sight of who you are and who you want to be. And that is perhaps the worst thing that can ever happen to you.

Throughout my own journey, I’ve been faced with these choices often. Although I am still quite young, I know all too well what it means to outgrow certain things and people that once brought me joy. But eventually, each and every one of us have to realize that our own happiness must be a priority. Our own lives and the way in which we desire to go about them must always be at the forefront of our minds if we are to live a truly happy, purposeful life. Otherwise, we begin living for things and people that aren’t at the core of who we are.

In order to let go of the things that no longer serve us, we first must become aware of them. We first must contemplate and become conscious of the things and people that are holding us back. This is one of the hardest but most crucial steps, as oftentimes our lives are on autopilot as a function of our past, our environment, and our experiences. But once we become aware, we need to consciously choose to let them go and instead embrace new things, people, and passions in our lives in order to achieve whatever it is that feels true to us.

Although it will be hard to slowly fade these things out, you’ll be light, rejuvenated, and fulfilled knowing that you now have the room for new realities, new experiences, and new people that enter your life. You now have the time for things and people that you never did before because you’ve made the courageous decision to put yourself first and pursue only the things and people that you love the most.

Because when you pursue only the things and people that you truly love, then your life begins to become simply just that: love. You begin to love every aspect of your life and all the people you consciously chose to be in it. You have the privilege to surround yourself with things and people that make life worth living for. And most of all, you have more precious time to live in a way that is happy, fulfilling, and on purpose, which is perhaps the only true reason we have to be here anyway.

So, to the one who needs to let go of things that no longer serves you…

Know that you never have to settle for less than you deserve. Your life is a choice. The people in it, as well as the things you pursue, are a part of the manifestation that you’ve created for yourself. Throughout your life, you will meet new people, experience new things, and formulate new beliefs and mindsets about how the world works. You are never stuck in life, and within your power is the choice to choose the things and people that most align with who you are and who you want to be.

Open your mind to the many different perspectives, shifts, and changes that come alongside the beauty that is life. And if something (or someone) no longer reminds you of home, then let go of them gracefully and with purpose, knowing that what’s right for you will always find you and what’s true to you will always be connected to you. You are never limited by the confines of what’s around you, rather you are only restricted by the confines of what you choose to believe in.
