You Are Not A Slave To Your Sin

By

We all have sinful pieces, parts of us that are dull and don’t shine in the light. We all have sections of our souls that are heavy with the past, that drag behind us like dead weight. We all have moments from our lives that hurt, rather than help. We’ve all lied, cheated, loved people who weren’t right for us, disappointed those who cared, strayed from the truth we knew in our hearts, had a grasp on what we should choose and choose the opposite instead.

We’ve all let ourselves down.

We are all human—spotted and tainted with sin, aching and bruised from the times we’ve fallen flat on our faces—and yet, we’re not meant to, and don’t have to spend our days being victim to our imperfections and faults.

In Christ, we are forgiven, we are healed, we are strengthened, and we are ready. Ready to face a new morning. Ready to let go of the people we once were. Ready to start new with a fresh and beautiful perspective. Ready to forgive and rebuild our hearts.

Listen. None of us are perfect. None of us have this life figured out. None of us have enough ‘good deeds’ stored up that we don’t have to lean into our Father’s grace.

None of us always choose to do and say the right thing, or to live unselfishly, walking in God’s light. None of us will be the best versions of ourselves all the time—but it’s okay.

It’s okay.

Because our lives are not defined by our mistakes, but our Savior.

Because we’re not expected to be flawless people, ones who never mess up or fall down. We are not meant to be models of grace in an imperfect world. Yes, we are called to live like our Father, but when we don’t measure up, we are not disregarded as unworthy in His eyes.

No matter what we do, or say, or choose, or stray from—He is with, and within us. And because of His sacrifice, we don’t have to be slaves to our sin.

In His name we are freed—so cast off that heaviness, push away the sorrow and guilt. No longer walk around with your head in your hands, forever scared of the next thing, next mistake. You don’t have to live your life falling victim to the pain of your past, believing that hopelessness is all there is, having fear that you’ll never rise.

You are not defined by the times you have failed—your identity is found in Christ, not in this worldly place or pain.

You don’t have to move through this life counting your failures with your fingers, shuffling your feet just waiting for the next thing to go wrong. You don’t have to crawl through your days endless and defeated, filled with the perspective that you are unworthy of love.

God made you in His image—there’s not a single thing that will make you less in His eyes. But you have to cast away your doubt and bring Him in. You have to trust that He will clear away your past, allow for a new beginning through His Son.

You have to know that your days are not meant to be wasted being a slave to all the things behind you. In Him, you are clean. So wash yourself, forgive yourself, and become new.
