7 Reasons To Pick Up A Side Hustle (Even If You Think You’re Too Busy)

By

‘Side hustle’ –basically a part-time gig, a just-for-fun job, a passion project on the weekends – anything you’re doing on the side of your normal, daily life.

You don’t need it, but it’s productive, so why not?

Sometimes life gets a little crazy…but sometimes the mundane wakeup-eat-work-eat-bed gets old and you need something to spice it up. Here’s 7 reasons why, no matter your age or how busy you are (or think you are), you should pick up a side hustle.

1. It’s fun.

Okay…work = fun? Before you roll your eyes, hear me out. A side hustle is supposed to be fun. It’s something you’re doing outside of your normal routine – for extra cash, for the opportunity, for the memories, for the friendships, or because it’s something your passionate about, etc.

Instead of thinking of this as ‘just another item to add to your schedule,’ think about the possibilities and the promise.

2. You’ll actually learn to spend your time better.

Hate to break it to you, but when you’re doing the same-ole-same-ole at your 9 to 5 every day, you tend to get a little lazy. You just don’t have the drive to hangout with friends after work or to spend your free time doing anything other than laying down because your life has just become one big blah.

When you pick up a side hustle, not only are you forced to be more productive, but you learn to spend your time better. When you work certain nights out of the week, you have to make plans on your free nights. You have to put effort into your relationships. You have to get off the couch and out of the house.

So as much as you want to complain about this side hustle taking up your time – it’ll actually benefit you and show you how to squeeze out every last drop of your free minutes.

3. More cash = more adventures.

Look at it this way: the more work you do, the more fun you can have. Which is totally, without-a-doubt true. Even if you’re adding another thing to your list, this ‘thing’ actually makes you money which means you can enjoy some guilt-free drinks at the bar on Saturday night, or book that girls/guys trip to Vegas without batting an eyelash. More $$, more fun.

4. You can always back off.

The nice thing about a side hustle is that it’s not a full-time commitment. It’s something you’re doing on the side, so if it ever gets to be too much, you can always pull back the reins and reset.

5. You’ll become more organized.

Because you’ve added more to your schedule, you’ll learn how to stay organized, which is a suuuuper valuable life skill. You’ll now have to balance and manage more, (aka a clean, more put together lifestyle) which will ultimately help you be a better human being.

6. You meet new people and have new experiences.

A new job/passion project/hustle means new experiences and encounters. You won’t be stuck with the same coworkers in the same cubicle; instead, you’ll be able to meet others who are likeminded (or not – either way is cool) and you’ll learn to expand outside of your bubble, which is always good.

7. Boredom is replaced with purpose.

Let’s be real, when you do the same thing every day, every week, every month, etc. it gets old. You get bored. You start to feel stuck. And feeling stuck sucks. Having a side hustle spices up your life. It gets you out of the same thing every day and helps you find purpose and passion again. It reminds you that life is worth living, and the things you love are worth pursuing. So pursue them.
