5 Things In Life You Have Complete Control To Change, If You Want To

By

Not everything falls within the scope of our control. Some of us are tormented by illnesses, debts, the deaths of loved ones – inescapable tragedies. But many of life’s elements are at our mercy – changeable at our say so. Let’s take advantage of this fact, and not allow ourselves to become trapped by our own unwillingness to change the changeable.

1. RELATIONSHIPS don’t have to be permanent.

We govern our company. Who we choose to include in our lives – that falls under our own authority. Sure, individuals can be persistent, trying with all their might to latch onto us. We may feel obligated to keep certain people in our spheres. At the end of the day, however, we have the power to take out the trash. We can remove the naysayers, the downers, those who fail to inspire us. We can pluck them from our lives like unwanted hairs around our brows. It’s our prerogative – to de friend people, stop answering phone calls. Too often we allow our relationships – platonic or otherwise – to bog us down, to choke us with toxicity. Recognize that you control your relationships, that they should be mutually beneficial for all parties. Find the courage to end those that are bringing you down.

2. There are other JOBS out there.

We spend most of our waking hours at work. Hating your job, therefore, it’s an easy way to fill your life with misery. Do not be fooled into thinking your current job is the only viable option. It’s not. There are so many other things you could be doing in order to pay your bills, and you could probably get by on less money than you think. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. When you’ll be spending 40+ hours at it each week, settling for an unsatisfactory job is a damn shame and not necessary.

3. ROUTINES hinder development.

Bored with your life? Mix up your schedule. With the Internet and infinite sources right at our fingertips, there are a million and one things to do in our free time. Take up a new hobby. Join a club or organized activity. Engaging with new people and participating in something outside of the ordinary – which is always an option in life – could be just the jolt you need. Remember the words of Winston Churchill: To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often. Don’t get stuck in a stagnate rut.

4. HOME is where the heart is.

Moving is a commitment, a big change. Some of us may even fear that it’s too big a leap, that we’ll be uncomfortable or lonely in a new setting. If there’s a question at all of whether you should stay or go, and you’re unattached, you should go. Take the leap. View the world from a new lens, in a new environment. Escape the weather you hate, the family members that demand constant attention. Go and be alone. Don’t feel trapped where you are – there’s a whole big world out there just waiting to be explored.

5. Our BODIES are capable of transformation.

We may never escape society’s pressure to fit the skinny, toned mold. It’s truly relentless. When tragically disappointed with our bodies, however, we have every tool available to make changes. We can diet. We can exercise. We can expose ourselves to more sunshine. We can smile more, frown less. We can invest in a new wardrobe, one drastically different from our typical garb. We can chop all our hair off or go out and buy a wig. We can look like one thing today and the complete opposite tomorrow. The ability is there, it’s the willingness we often lack. Take your physique into your own hands rather than constantly bombarding it with hatred.
