You’ll miss the little things. The way she pronounced your name when she was feeling silly, the way her breaths deepened in her sleep. You’ll miss the way she complained about the weather every single day and the way she always put on your favorite TV show just because she knew you’d want to watch it.

You’ll miss the big things. You’ll miss the way she tried so hard to make every holiday perfect and the way she went out of her way to surprise you on your birthday. You’ll miss having someone to tell every detail of your life and to spend all of your time with.

You’ll miss the way she made you feel on the good days and how she’d always make you smile and how her laughter was so contagious that you couldn’t help but laugh, too. You’ll miss the late night talks and the morning kisses and all the seconds in between.

And the truth is, once she leaves, you’ll even miss the bad things. The fights, the complications, all the little quirks that once drove you crazy. Because you never realize what you have until it’s already walking out the door, and it doesn’t matter how much you beg for it back. Once she’s done, she’s done.

So remember this on the bad days, during the times you want to give up. When you want to turn your attention elsewhere or find solace in someone else. Remember this when you forget what you’re fighting for and instead find things to fight about. When you forget why you fell in love in the first place.

Because once she walks away, she’s gone.
