Guard Your Heart

By

Guard your heart. It’s such a simple sentence, yet so many of us struggle with doing just that. Life is all about decisions. We make those decisions based on what we feel is best for ourselves. What about our hearts? Are we making decisions that will be good for our hearts as well? Those decisions we make for ourselves affect our hearts in everything we do.

Sometimes what we feel is best for us isn’t actually best for us in the long run. Why do we stay in situations knowing nothing good will come out of them? Our hearts hold on to hope that something will change for the better. Why do we choose someone knowing they aren’t right for us? Our minds try to convince us this person is right for us. Why do we settle knowing deep within we deserve so much better for ourselves? Our mind tricks us into thinking settling is the best we will ever get.

Guard your heart. There’s that saying again. Simple, yet so hard to do. As humans, we know the difference between good and bad. We know what is right and what is wrong. We need to do the same with our hearts. We need to love ourselves enough to not just settle. We need to handle our hearts with care. You owe it to yourself to only accept the best. Settling isn’t what our hearts need. Something real is what our hearts need.

Yes, it absolutely hurts to let things and people go. Things that do not serve a positive purpose in our lives need to go. The longer we hold on, the more damage we are doing to our hearts. Why is it so hard for so many of us to just let go? We know what we deserve. Accepting less from someone or something just isn’t going to cut it. You’re not doing yourself any favors by holding on. It’s hard to let go. In the end, our hearts matter the most.

In order to be happy, we have to make decisions that are good for our hearts and overall well being. Guard your heart. When something isn’t meant for you, accept it. When something isn’t good for you, let it go. You will thank yourself later. Letting go of things that don’t serve us in a positive way may be a blessing in disguise. God always has a way of protecting us from things that are never going to be meant for us. Always thank him for the protection he bestows upon us. We are his children.

God only wants the best for us. At the end of the day, God always knows what our hearts need. He made our hearts. Take care of your heart. Guard your heart. Always remind yourself that you deserve the best. Above all, remind yourself of these things.
