1. Just let it go.

Nothing in life holds you back more than keeping grudges about the past — exes who have wronged you, friends who betrayed you and other people who have let you down. But girl don’t let them get you down because all that sadness will only become wrinkles on your face and grey hair in your head, and ain’t nobody got time for THAT. So the first step to true happiness in life is to let go of the past. Just exhale and let it go. Forgive the ex who treated you like shit so you can focus on the positive, not the negative.

2. When you think you shouldn’t, do.

Sometimes the only thing holding you back from your life is you. There’s a difference between doing something you know you shouldn’t be doing because it’s bad or dangerous or will get your ass in deep trouble How to Get Away with Murder style and things you’re afraid to do because you’ve never tried before. But every once in a while do that thing you think you shouldn’t be doing not least because you’ll probably have a story to tell your friends the next day. Life is about taking risks, not that risk-taking alone will make you happy but at least you’ll be out of your comfort zone every now and again even if you never go there again.

3. Learn to say “yes” to more stuff.

We say “no” when things make us uncomfortable. Unless we’re in grave danger “no” is usually a defense mechanism or maybe we just plum don’t feel like doing it. But when you say “Yes” to more things in life you open yourself up to more people and more experiences and you might even discover whole new passions and talents, too.

4. Don’t put your dreams on hold.

Never, ever put your dreams on hold until some other time. What if “later” never comes? Sure, things get in the way, life happens and unexpected things pop up from time to time. But that should be even more reason for you to seize the moment and pursue whatever it is you really want to do now.

5. Be yourself, always.

The worst thing about being even slightly different is that you still feel all that pressure to fit in, to just be “normal,” whatever that means. You fear that if you stand out too much you’ll end up isolating yourself. But you should always be yourself, no matter what. People who like you for you will find their way to you, so don’t worry about being alone.

6. Don’t sell yourself short.

Know how much you’re worth. And in every relationship you have — romantic, friendship, work, fuck buddy, whatever — demand at least that much.
