A brilliant Londoner who works in a shoe shop has started an IndieGoGo CroudFunding campaign to help Greece raise the $1,600,000,000 it needs to clear up its debts.

“All this dithering over Greece is getting boring,” the page reads. “European ministers flexing their muscles and posturing over whether they can help the Greek people of not. Why don’t we the people just sort it instead?”

This is a fascinating approach to helping an entire economy raise money to clear its debts. It really gives the power back to the people. Though $1.6 billion seems like a lot to raise in a week — it sure is! — it’s actually entirely possible to meet the goal if everyone around the world does their part.

“The European Union is home to 503 million people, if we all just chip in a few Euro then we can get Greece sorted and hopefully get them back on track soon. Easy,” the East London argued.

To put things in perspective, Darren Wilson supporters raised nearly $500,000 with a crowdfunding campaign. The pizza restaurant in Indiana that refused to serve gay weddings raised $840,000 in a similar campaign.

If 300 million people contributed 6 Euros, Greece could be debt free.
