Going To Berlin This Summer? Don’t Miss This Epic Music Festival

You’re probably aware of all the summer music festivals taking place in a field/campsite near you. Summer music festivals are great because they give you a chance to listen to cool music and enjoy being outdoors — just don’t forget to pop an allergy pill!

But sometimes a music festival can feel so corporate, an excuse to get you to spend even more money on site than you did on the price of entry.

If you’re planning a trip to Berlin this summer you won’t want to miss a different, more challenging, more experimental kind of festival. Since 2010 KRAKE, an annual festival for electronic music in Berlin, the city largely considered the headquarters of the “underground” electronic music industry, has been offering a week-long festival focusing on experimental arts and music.

But one thing’s for sure: KRAKE is not just another music festival. “The festival is not huge,” according to Killekill, the label that produces the whole thing. It’s “not expensive, does not have big sponsoring deals or four different colour area passes. It’s just a good and so far successful try to bring back the focus on artists who dare to step off the beaten tracks. A festival for music lovers.”

Between August 3 to August 8 you’ll have performances by Untold, Cassegrain & Tin Man, Eomac and Sendai but also arty nights, a bomb night of modern techno, a laser installation by Robert Henke plus six floors filled with music and contemporary art.

Sounds so cool. I always love the sort of interdisciplinary, challenging music and art that builds bridges between music and technology and music and the performing, audio-visual and installation arts.
