Got 2 Be Real is web series, though now 🙁 defunct, that mashes up fake voices with live clips of all the world’s most important divas — Whitney, Aretha, Beyonce, Rihanna, Patti Labelle, Fantasia and Mariah Carey — and turning them into puppets who “read” each other all the damn time. The women are caricatures of themselves, what’s true and false about them. And that’s what makes it so funny. The result is smooth and HILARIOUS, because all they do is say bad stuff about each other, and what could be funnier than that! But you also have to think about the amout of time spent finding these clips, rehearsing the voices and getting the script just right. Black humor is special. It comes with a punch — a tinge of sass — and that’s what keeps it so exciting.
