A New Harvard Study Shows That Drinking Coffee Reduces The Risk Of Suicide By 50%

Are you drinking a cup of coffee right now? Well, guess what! Apparently drinking two to four cups of coffee per day reduces the risk of suicide in men and women by 50%. The study, done by researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health, doesn’t imply that depressed adults should simply drink more coffee to undepress themselves. “Overall, our results suggest that there is little further benefit for consumption above two to three cups/day or 400 mg of caffeine/day,” the authors said. So don’t try to self-medicate by guzzling cup after cup of coffee. The science behind it all is that caffeine works to stimulate the nervous system and actually has an antidepressant effect by boosting production of serotonin, dopamine, and noradrenaline in the brain.

I’m not exactly sure what this study tells us about the pain of depression and suicide, really, but it is interesting to see how this little drug impacts our lives.
