5 Cool Songs To Make Out To

1. Nataly Dawn, “Dance”

Nataly Dawn is a smokey-voiced California-based singer/songwriter and exactly one half of the duo Pomplamoose. Her full-length debut How I Knew Her drops on February 12th, just two days before Valentine’s Day. So you know what that means — you’ve a full two days to perfect those lip moves! On “Dance,” Dawn uses the cool rasp in her voice to sing about the troubles of being in a relationship. Instead of focusing on the things that bring us apart, like fighting and worrying about bills, let’s focus instead on the things that bring us happiness, like dancing. It’s a good song to make out to because it’s not too fast but it’s not too slow either, and her coos provide the perfect nudge for some intense lip locking.

2. The xx, “Angels”

I’ve been playing this song NON-STOP for days. If this one is not already on your make out playlist, you obviously don’t know what you’re doing with that mouth of yours. British indie pop band The xx is known for their soaring, moody songs about love, heartbreak and intimacy. “Angels,” from their second full-length record Coexist, says a lot with so little. It’s slow, sparse, and really grabs you, emotionally. This is definitely one of the best songs you can make out to.

3. Aaliyah, “Rock the Boat”

If you listen to “Rock the Boat,” for me Aaliyah’s best song, you’ll see that it’s obviously not about boats. It’s about rocking your boat, and that’s what a make out session is supposed to be a precursor to, anyway. “Rock the Boat” was Aaliyah’s last music video before her tragic death — the plane crashed literally hours after shooting for this video wrapped — but it still goes down as a great slow song that will put you in the mood.

4. Sade, “Soldier of Love”

Sade is so the queen of music that gets you hot and bothered. “Soldier of Love,” from her last album of the same title, is slow but energized and pushes forward with soulful groves that set the make out mood. In a lot of ways, that’s what R&B music is about, from Chanté Moore to Toni Braxton. That’s why they call it “baby making music”!

5. Wynter Gordon, “Tomorrow”

Queens-bred up-and-coming artist Wynter Gordon has already been featured on a number of dance tracks like David Guetta’s “Toyfriend.” But on her new EP Human Conditon Pt. 2: Sanguine, the second of four parts, Gordon takes the reign and mesmerizes with a soulful voice backed by electronic textures. Perfect for being intimate with your special someone.

Now go forth and make out — cautiously, however. Nobody wants herpes — or the flu!
