A Comprehensive Ranking Of M&M’s Flavors

By

True story: I’m addicted to chocolate. But really, I don’t think I go a single day without at least one piece of something chocolate. I have very curious tastebuds, and am usually down to at least try any food if prompted. So naturally, whenever I see a new M&M’s flavor at CVS or Publix or wherever I may be, I always buy a pack to try them. I looked it up, and I have tasted every kind of M&M that is currently in available in the U.S. (I don’t know whether to be proud, or ashamed. Let’s just chalk it all up for the sake of research and call it a day.)

1. Crispy M&M’s

Remember these? Okay so I lied; these are no longer available in the U.S., but Crispy M&M’s were the holy grail of M&M’s, and deserve the #1 spot on my list. Not to be confused with Pretzel M&M’s (because they also come in a blue package), I have no idea what makes these M&M’s “crispy”, but it doesn’t really matter. They still sell the crispy kind in the UK, and to be honest I looked into internationally shipping some bags to my house…Although these M&M’s have been retired, crispy M&M’s will always have a special place in my heart. #neverforget #gonebutnotforgotten.

2. Peanut Butter M&M’s

If this were a list of the most addictive kind of M&M’s, peanut butter would be at the very top of the list instead of second. Nonetheless, peanut butter M&M’s are delicious. So delicious, it’s dangerous to buy them in large quantities because you will eat all of them in less than 24 hours. Personally, I prefer these to Reese’s Pieces, but that’s a whole different debate.

3. Pretzel M&M’s

Pretzel M&M’s made a huge splash when they first came out. Why hadn’t Mars thought of combining pretzels with chocolate yet?! Sweet and salty is the best food combination ever. This flavor definitely lives up to its hype (but I still think Peanut Butter and Crispy are better).

4. Mini M&M’s

Everything is better in miniature. Mini M&M’s are so cute, and so good. Plus, they’re the perfect way to learn how to swallow grown-up pills, if that’s a problem for you.

5. Peanut M&M’s

Peanut M&M’s are a classic. They’re definitely not as addictive as Peanut Butter M&M’s, but it’s hard not to like them.

6. Straight-Up M&M’s

They’re the OG of M&M’s: plain old milk chocolate. I usually don’t ever buy these unless they’re the only option, but sometimes you’re just in the mood for normal M&M’s. They’re what started it all, so I have to give the original M&M’s a somewhat high ranking out of respect.

7. Candy Corn M&M’s

Okay, so these were a Halloween special, but I tried these on a mere whim, and they were surprisingly good. Good enough to make the list. I don’t like candy corn, so I expected to not like this flavor, but they don’t really taste anything like candy corn. It’s more just like, white chocolate. These win the award for the most unexpectedly good M&M’s.

8. Birthday Cake M&M’s

They sound weird, but they weren’t that bad. Kinda sweet, but they taste weirdly good and actually sort of like birthday cake.

9. Coconut M&M’s

These didn’t really make an impression on me. Probably wouldn’t buy them again. They were just meh.

10. Mint M&M’s

Now we’re reaching the “worst” end of the best/worst spectrum. It’s not that Mint M&M’s were terrible, it’s just if I’m gonna have mint candy, it’s gonna be like a York or Junior Mints, not Mint M&M’s.

11. Dark Chocolate M&M’s

Don’t get me wrong, I love dark chocolate, but there’s not enough dark-chocolate-to-candy-shell ratio to even justify these as being “healthy for you” (which is why we buy dark chocolate, let’s be real).

12. Almond M&M’s

These M&M’s are tryin’ to be peanut M&M’s but failing. They’re just chocolate covered almonds but worse. Peanut should be the only nut for M&M’s.

13. “Mega” M&M’s

I don’t understand the point of these. Like, I would rather have three regular M&M’s than one giant weird M&M. I don’t know who came up with the “Mega” concept, but it was not a winner in my book.

14. Raspberry M&M’s

These are an embarrassment to M&M’s, and taste like M&M’s filled with cough syrup. Never again will I be buying these. Two thumbs down.
