7 Truths About Life You Need To Hear Right Now

By

There are a few things in this life that I know to be absolutely true. Right now, I will only share seven of them because if I shared them all then there would be no more surprises and it could take an eternity to discuss. Throughout all the chaos that life can throw your way, thinking back on these seven truths might alleviate some stress or at least help you realize that the world isn’t ending.

1. Never deprive yourself of having feelings, whether they are good or incredibly difficult to handle. Being able to feel is one of our greatest treasures as humans. We can feel intense joy or unbearable pain. Both are equally as important to go through. Give yourself time to feel anything and everything. You aren’t weak for doing so, and if anything you will be stronger because of it.

2. You don’t have to have a lot of friends to say that you have friends. You don’t have to be the person everyone likes or have 800 Facebook friends for the sake of it. Truthfully, you only need a handful of people you can count on to survive. Think about your 800 Facebook friends, and think about how many of them would come to your aid right now with no questions asked. Only the ones you can answer with certainty should be enough to tell you how to evaluate your inner circle.

3. You’ll always overspend at Target. Even if you go in with a budget, something will draw your eye and you’ll go a few bucks over. It’s okay when things don’t go according to plan, as long as you got something from the experience.

4. It’s never what happens to us, it is how we react to what happens that matters. This truth is brought to you by my father. It honestly doesn’t matter what happens to us in life. None of it does. What matters is the way that you react to what happens. You can’t stop the inevitable from happening, but you can change how you react, your attitude, your perspective, your location, and just about everything else to overcome your circumstance. Don’t sit and contemplate why it happened. It will never matter why. What matters is what you do next. Put your energy there.

5. It’s okay to love the catchy pop-song on the radio. It’s also okay to like the song that no one has heard of and it’s only available on Soundcloud. You are allowed to like and enjoy whatever you want. Don’t waste your time abiding by everyone else standards of what you should like or do or listen to. Just do what you want and enjoy what you do. I can tell you with absolute honesty that I listened to “Closer” by The Chainsmokers 200 times when it first came out and I don’t care what anyone thinks about that. Own it.

6. The most beautiful things in life happen to us when we aren’t looking for them and when we least expect them. Nothing in life is planned. You can make a schedule and draft your life as many times as you want, but something will always ‘come up.’ Whether that’s a person, job, move, life decision, or that they simply only serve Pepsi instead of Coke, something will always come up and force you to adapt. This is okay. This is actually wonderful. Whatever it is that finds you in a moment where you aren’t prepared, just slow your breathing and enjoy it. There is a reason why things fall into our laps at unexpected moments, and it’s usually so something else in our life can fall into place. Trust the process.

7. At the end of each day, make sure you are happy. If you aren’t, figure out what needs to change. This could be a simple alteration or a total redirection of your life, but either way this is the time to think about yourself. When you’ve gone through the mundane tasks of the day, stop at the end and really ask yourself if you are happy. Are you following your passion? Are you happy in your relationship? Are you forcing something in your life to work? How’s your mental health? How’s your physical health? Talk to yourself. No one can know your happiness better than yourself. If you feel something isn’t right, then you need to identify it and fix it. Life is too short to go to bed every night of the week and wish you were doing something else with your life. Don’t waste your own time. Make your change, find your truth, and live it until the end.
