This Is Where I Find My Strength

The idea that anything is possible can be both exhilarating and terrifying. For some of us, it can be the kind of mantra that motivates us to move forward, into the unknown, soul ablaze and eyes on the prize. For others, it can be a debilitating dance with fear. Fear of what could go wrong, fear of failure or humiliation, fear that our worst-case scenarios will be more than just a “what if” dilemma in our minds, but our reality.

We are constantly straddling the line of circumstance, between before and after, better and worse, okay and not okay. Walking our own path like a tightrope, one foot in front of the other, with a tightness gripping at our hearts and our heads as we carefully step, inching forward day after day. Such a fragile balance, such an unnerving stress on our equilibrium. Stepping forward, trying not to be pulled back by the winds of our uncertainty or the shakiness in our footing.

But, maybe the beauty in life comes from knowing that while we are constantly walking through the good and the bad, we can adjust our focus onto the possibility that things will be okay, that things will get better, no matter what we walk through.

We can train our eyes to look for that hope, just ahead on the horizon, that underlying belief that bad times may shake us, but we will find our footing again, we will maintain the safety net of our support system when we feel unsteady.

We are skilled at the art of adjustment, continuing on even when it feels inconceivable. So, move forward into the uncomfortable and the unknown. Work hard to achieve your goals. Work even harder when obstacles try and throw you off balance. Love with fierce abandon, even when you know people are sometimes reckless with soft-hearted people. Make the time for the ones you love, even when the time may never feel like enough.

Life is a beautifully tragic story of possibility. And each individual life is its own tale of overcoming fear, weakness, and heartbreak. So, no matter what this life throws at you, train your eyes to continue to search for the horizon. Allow that to focus you, to encourage you to keep going even when it feels like it’s impossible to take even one more step.

Most of us are terrified of the unknown because it makes us feel like we have no control over our lives. But, keep your heart and your head focused on the infinite possibilities for strength. Because that is what you are at your core: you are strong and capable of adjusting to the things that you go through. You are kind and gracious in spite of the winds that try and shake you.

You were born for this: to walk your path bravely and beautifully. With the kind of courage that encourages onlookers to remain steadfast in hope for the journey ahead. You are an amazing show of heart, a tribute to the trials you’ve faced, and don’t you ever forget it.
