Justin Bieber Gets Slow

By

When you slow down Justin Bieber’s “U Smile” by 800%, you get a song so unrecognizable that some commenters on Gawker purported it to be an entirely different song called “Echoes Across the Astral Wasteland” by a band called Photon Wave Orchestra. That should clue you into what this masterpiece created by Nick Pittsinger actually sounds like: no, not a slow jam––it’s way too slow for that. More like an ambient track you might hear while getting a massage or doing yoga. (Gawker compares it to Animal Collective!)

Pittsinger and Gawker insist that the bizarre but quite beautiful track Pittsinger created, using a free program called Paulstretch, is indeed a new version of “U Smile,” not a Photon Wave Orchestra song. Or an Animal Collective song. Or a Sigur Rós song. Some people find the Bieb’s voice to be the most soothing sound in the world, but for those who don’t, this 35-minute transformation of it might successfully get you through the rest of your Friday.

Here’s a YouTube fan video of the original “U Smile” for comparison’s sake:
