Valentine’s Day Is About Love, Not Chocolate

By

We all know those people who say they absolutely HATE Valentine’s Day, regardless of whether or not they have a significant other. Well, I’m here to tell those people to knock it off.

You may even be that person who despises Valentine’s Day, but why?

I’ll admit that thanks to Hallmark, and other comparable businesses, the importance of Valentine’s Day has become unnecessarily exaggerated. No woman — or man — should expect an expensive piece of jewelry, a $50 bouquet of roses and a gigantic teddy bear each year the holiday rolls around — that’s just unnecessary.

And I know that that’s why a lot of people dislike the holiday, because it has been blown out of proportion. But it’s not the sweet treats and beautiful roses that we should be focusing; it’s that feeling of celebrating love.

The society we live in today isn’t always the happiest or brightest. The news is constantly filled with reports of crime, death and bankruptcy, and sometimes it’s easy to forget that there is still good left in this world. Valentine’s Day is a day solely dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the love and goodness that is left in the world, so why hate on that? Valentine’s Day is the perfect reminder that goodness in this world does still exist, and that we should embrace it.

Some may dislike Valentine’s Day because they don’t have a significant other to share it with. So what? Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love, so celebrate the love you share with anyone when February 14 rolls around. Let’s bring some love back into this world that sometimes forgets the concept.
