For 2019, I Pray That You Will Learn To Walk By Faith And Not By Sight

“Walking by faith and not by sight.”

This is not only in the context of listening more attentively to the voice of God, but also in letting go of that grasp we hold on so tightly to attain some form of control over our lives.

For 2019, I pray that you will learn to walk by faith and not by sight.

On the days where you doubt your worth, the days where you wonder if you are where you are supposed to be, the days where you feel as though you’re almost numb and nothing is really getting through, the days where you’ve thought that switching the off or the snooze button are the only means of escape, the days where you’re desperate to shut out everyone and everything around you.

I pray that in all those moments, you will be reminded to shift your focus back to what matters most, back to the One whose opinion matters above all.

I pray that you will understand that these moments of despair do not ever make you any less of a person.

I pray that in the midst of all your thoughts and frustration, you know that no matter how all-consuming they can feel, it does not take away all the existing beautiful pieces that makes you, you.

I pray that even in the moments where you feel like you’ve lost yourself to the darkness within you, you will choose to remember that the battle is far from over.

That instead, we will learn to walk by faith, to slowly let go of the baggage that has subconsciously plagued us for years, to be able to distinguish our goals from the empty white noise, and to take things in stride step-by-step.

I pray that you will change the way you’ve been seeing yourself.

I know, we are all our own biggest critics.

But my prayer for you is that you will learn to not be as harsh on yourself and your progress. There is a difference between being open to growth and criticism and being unnecessarily harsh and negative in the way we view ourselves. Healing, becoming a better version of ourselves, recovery — all these will take time, and I pray that you choose to be more patient with yourself.

There may have been many moments this past year where you have been unable to picture the midway point of the road, let alone the end goal.

But for 2019, my prayer is that you will learn to let go and let God come through, for He knows best what is good for us.

There are many things that may seem uncertain, which makes the future sound scary. But micromanaging everything and struggling to maintain power is not going to help you go further, and even if it does, it may be a temporary release and you would eventually reach a burnout.

I pray that you will choose to speak this into existence for the next year: that all the more in the midst of our doubts, let us choose to walk by faith and not by sight.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
