In 2018, Don’t Settle For Almost Relationships

This year, you settled. You settled in your relationships, in your career, in your friendships and in who you spent time with. You put yourself in second place. You put your goals on hold. You put your worth and threw it away. Why? You didn’t know your own value. You didn’t even know who you were. But now, it’s time to change that. It’s time to regain love — for yourself this time.

In 2018, it’s time to pick up the pieces in your heart that you have let rot. You know what I’m talking about. The parts of your past that have dictated your present life and future. The parts of your heart that you have given up on. The boys and girls from your past that you have never let go of. It’s time to let those pieces blossom instead of decay. It’s time to let your heart, grow, instead of drown.

In 2018, it’s time to retain trust within yourself. For all those mistakes you made and promises you broke. It’s time to tell yourself, I forgive you. And mean it. Truly, deeply believe it. It’s also time to forgive the people from years ago that betrayed you an left you hanging. Nothing good will come from resentment. Nothing good will come from hatred. So wish them well, let them go and move on with your life.

And finally, it’s time to stop settling for mediocre dates, boring conversations, and I love you’s that end in question marks.

Finally, it’s time to put your self worth on a platter instead of on a one dollar plastic plate. It’s time for you to love yourself. To know that you are a human being that has faults and flaws, but is still magnificent. Put your heart out there for people to call for it. Put your heart out there, and this year, only put it out there for people who will love it whole heartedly.

Stop pining for past lovers. Stop chasing after people who will you high and dry. Stop wanting and giving your love to toxic relationships that will only end in goodbyes. Stop putting your heart on the line, and instead, be picky. Be selfish. It’s your only heart. It’s your only soul. Treat it well. And make sure you give it someone who will hold it and kiss it with care.

It’s time to stop fooling around, thinking that maybe your almost relationship will turn into real love. It’s time to stop kidding yourself, thinking that maybe your ex will come back into your life and not break your heart.

You only have one heart and one life. And at the end of the day, you will be stuck with your choices and chances that you took or didn’t take. Choose wisely. And most importantly, always know that your heart is sacred. And it belongs to someone just as sacred and beautiful as you. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
