Can We All Stop Acting Like Being Single Is The Worst Thing That Has Ever Happened To Us?

By

I used to complain all the time about single. I would wallow in self pity and talk about it to anyone who would listen. And I would sigh and flop down on my bed with an incredible amount of teenage angst and adolescent drama.

All I see and hear from single people is how much they wished they weren’t single. They stare at couples in awe, as if it is the most magical thing they had ever seen. They sulk on Valentine’s day, and get mad when their friends hang out with their significant others instead of them.

And we’ve got to stop.

Everyone always wants the opposite of what they already have. It’s just human nature. I’m 100% sure there are many people in relationships who envy our freedom to do as we please.

But that doesn’t mean we have to be so sad about our ‘status’. No matter what, being single is not the end of the world. I promise.

When you are single, you don’t have to wake up each morning thinking about another human being except for yourself. You get to do things for yourself and by yourself. You don’t have to be dependent on having another person around you to be happy. You get to grow and learn more about yourself each and everyday.

You also don’t spend as much money as you would do if you had a significant other. And you get to shamelessly flirt with cute guys at the bar, because you don’t have to take orders from anyone else.

This is your life you get to live!

You aren’t going to be single forever. So, while you’re here, you might as well have fun with it and enjoy it.

It’s easy to get lonely and to wish you had someone lying next to you while you sleep. It’s easy to give up on relationships and to hate yourself for it. It’s so easy to hate being single. But, there are so many reasons why we all need to celebrate it. There are so many reasons why being single rocks.

I’m not sure how being single became something so negative, but I wish more people could see the positive sides of getting to truly know yourself, instead of having to get to know another person.

I wish more people could see the positive side of living your life according to you.

So stop wallowing in self pity. Stop focusing on what you don’t have, and focus on what you do have! Pick your head up and do what you want to do. Hook up with cute men. Wink at guys on the street. Dress to the nines with your girlfriends. Pig out on take out chinese food and stay in. Lie in bed all day for all I care. Just, do what makes you happy, when it makes you happy. And guess what? You don’t have to apologize to anyone for it.

You don’t have to answer to anyone but yourself now.

And honestly? That’s pretty fucking awesome.
