7 Songza Stations You Didn’t Know You Needed In Your Life

By

I find that Songza is wildly underrated. I’ve been using it for years and I just don’t see it getting the hype that it’s more popular counterparts, Pandora and Spotify, seem to get. First of all, it’s the fancy hotel of music streaming. You get you’re own concierge. And yes, I meant that to be read with a bougie accent. Second of all, you don’t even have to know what you want to listen to. You just have to know what mood you’re in. And if that’s too much trouble to figure out, just type in an activity. Part of me thinks if I stare directly at it, Songza can actually read my mind and find the exact music I’m thinking of. Happy, sad, running, napping, singing in the shower. There is a station artfully crafted for every possible emotion and scenario. Here are seven stations that you immediately need in your life.

Moving Pictures in my Head curated by Gary Gunn

Complied of 535 different songs, this playlist is exactly what you need when you’re trying to get inspired. Artists like Radiohead, Tricky, Bjork and Portishead paint pictures with words and sound. This collection of songs will send your imagination to that deep place in back of your mind where all your best ideas lay waiting to be unearthed.

Indie Dinner for Two curated by Songza’s music experts

Your relationships has gotten to the next level and you’re at the point where you are preparing dinner for each other. Steam from boiling pasta billows from the stove as you give each other tastes of homemade tomato sauce from a wooden spoon. Delicious wine is poured and laughs are shared. This playlist of Indie artists like Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens and Death Cab for Cutie is the perfect soundtrack for the evening. Light a few scented candles you got yourself a sure thing.

When to listen to this playlist: Inviting a date over for dinner, cooking with your significant other or cooking alone pretending you’re with a significant other.

Breathe, Love, DVF curated by DVF

This playlist is exactly what you need if you’re about to roll out the yoga mat and find your zen. DVF stands for Diane Von Furstenberg. I can’t say for sure if Diane herself put this playlist together, but I wouldn’t be surprised. The expertly crafted collection of songs is enough to have you feeling like a total yoga goddess. Bending yourself into a pretzel feels like no big deal when Lana Del Ray’s haunting vocals are drifting through your ears.

When to listen to this playlist: While practicing yoga, during meditation or trying to calm yourself down on the drive home from work in rush hour traffic.

Caffeinated Classical curated by Songza’s music experts

Sometimes, you just need to get in the zone and get stuff done. Throw back a couple of espresso shots and let these energetic and fast-paced concertos keep you focused. My favorite way to enjoy this particular playlist is home alone, blasting it over a loud stereo while I stare at my computer screen working for an indefinite amount of hours. This can get pretty intense, though. It’s important to remember to blink.

Cool Air, Warm Heart curated by Katie Askew

Winter has been especially rough this year. Not for me, of course, because I live where you vacation- Miami. However, I also vacation where you live, taking a break from the perpetual sunshine to enjoy the novelty of snow and beauty of the mountains. So I’ve experienced some cool air. And I may not know what it’s like to be stuck indoors during a blizzard, but our winter in Miami was cold enough this year that I had to wear long pants every day for like an entire month. This playlist has what you need to forget the cold and feel all warm and cozy inside. Some artists include Bloc Party, Ryan Adams and The Avett Brothers. It’s like drinking a big cup of sweet hot chocolate, but with your ears.

When to listen to this playlist: Chilly winter nights, taking a trip up to a cabin in the mountains or when it’s too cold outside to leave your house.

Vodka Escapades: Ladies be Pregaming curated by Songza’s music experts

Bust out those high heels and soda chasers, this is the ultimate Girl’s Night Out pregame playlist. Let your friends- Rihanna, Drake and Ciara- provide the background music to that Pretty Woman montage of inappropriate outfit options. These songs will have you so pumped, you might wear yourself out before your Uber arrives. Which, as long as you took one hot picture in your outfits, isn’t that big of a deal.

Beach Bound Beats curated by Gaston McGary

“Let’s go to the beach, each, let’s go get away”. Summer is just around the corner, and this is the only playlist you’ll need once it gets here. Get ready to pile into the car, roll down the windows and blast these beach bound beats. Guys like Kid Cudi and Kendrick Lamar perfectly compliment a sandy day-buzz. I can practically smell the tanning oil and Malibu pineapple.
