An Ode To A Haircut

By

I woke up today with a grin from ear to ear.
As I knew an exciting day was finally here!
Twas’ the day of haircutting that would bring me happiness and joy!
How could one not feel the slightest bit coy?
As today was the day, to get my haircut, hooray!

As I got in my car,
I would not need to go far.
To get my haircut today, today was the day!
Along the drive I got lost,
Alas, to me it was no loss…
Because today was the day, to get my haircut, hooray!

I entered the room,
And knew my haircut would be soon.
Oh, but wait, my stylist is booked?
A mistake made; I was overlooked.
His father you say?
I cross my fingers, as today could still be the day, my very personal haircut day!

I’m told he has learned from the best,
“Alright” I say, let’s put father dearest to the test!
A charming man indeed,
I think to myself as I read.
“A little trim and layering will do.
Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!”
I will get my haircut today, today is my day!

Things are going as smooth as can be,
He has even made me a little tea.
As I show him a picture, we are now good to go,
Ah! All to do is relax and enjoy the show.
Snip starts the scissors, on my- no more worries- peaceful haircut day.

I rest in my chair, my long hair flowing there.
Now all left to do, is to sit and stare…
AT MY NOWHERE HAIR,
-WHERE OH WHERE.
…WHERE OH WHERE OH WHERE?
HOLY HELL, IT’S NOT THERE!
MY LONG HAIR TODAY IS NOT LONG ANYMORE, AT ALL, I SAY.
MAYDAY, MAYDAY,
TODAY IS THE DAY MY HAIR ALL GONE, ON MY.NO.LONGER.PEACFUL.IM.FREAKING.OUT. HAIRCUT DAY.

Now as I smile through tears,
Growing it back will take me years….
Just get through it, you can do it.
You will not have a fit.
Looking into the mirror, I try to fake a smile.
All my beautiful hair sits on the floor… in a pile.
I grin and say bye,
And then I go cry.
Because today was the day, my very personal good-for-nothing, hell-cut day.
