How To Cleanse Your Home Of Negative Energy In Under 10 Minutes

By

I don’t know about you, but the messier my apartment, the more cluttered my mind seems to be. On the flip side, when I have good vibes flowing through my home and take care to create spaces I love, I’m more relaxed, inspired, creative and happy. It somehow makes me feel… lighter.

If it’s been a while since you’ve seen the floor, I totally get that tidying up can be a little overwhelming. When I’m putting it off, I remind myself that decluttering is an act of self-love rather than a tiresome chore. In other words, you’re treating yourself to live in the positive, good vibe space you deserve.

Treat yo self!

These simple techniques will get you started in clearing stagnant energy from your home. They’ll help free up mental space, remove negative vibes and get positive energy flowing. Once you get going, don’t be surprised if you’re suddenly inspired to give your space a more thorough scrub!

Here we go…

Step 1: State Your Intention

Making choices and deciding what you want is powerful. If your intention is to create a space of positive energy where you can relax, be inspired and create, then say so. Out loud. You don’t have to say it to anyone, just state your intention with conviction and love, and hear it for yourself.

The intention I often use is simply “Hello positive, goodbye negative”

Step 2: Air It Out

Negative energy needs somewhere to go, and the positive needs to be let in. Pull back your curtains and open your windows. It’s even more powerful to do this on a bright, sunny day, allowing both the fresh air and light to fill your space with positive vibes.

Step 3: Protect Your Entrances

It’s amazing to think of what a little lemon juice can do. Your doors and windows act as entrances for outside energy coming in, you know, as entrances do. To stop negative and low vibe energy from entering your little nest, it’s a great idea to wipe down any entrances – windows, doors, even doorknobs – with a mixture (potion?!) of fresh lemon juice, salt and white vinegar. Wear gloves, and give the surfaces a quick wipe. Easy and simple, you don’t have to go nuts with it.

Step 4: Sweep

Whilst vacuuming is great as far as getting rid of dirt, you’re better off sweeping to loosen up and free energy in your space. There’s a lot of power in the physical movement of it. Sweep towards an open door or window as a gesture to create an energetic shift. Out with the old, in with the new!

Step 5: Clean Your Cooker

In Feng Shui terms, your stovetop represents your health and financial life. Given I just had an earache and received an unexpected bill, I was not surprised to see my stovetop was prettttttty scummy. And even though it was in rough shape, it only took 3 minutes to clean up.

Clean. Your. Stove. Top

Step 6: Smudge It Up

Smudge your room with a smoking piece of Palo Santo (or sage if you prefer). This helps dislodge stagnant areas of energy, so I like to waft it right into the corners of my rooms. The smell is lovely, and acts as a reminder of my intention. See ya later, negative ju-ju.

Because it moves energy, you’ll have positive vibes circulating in no time.

Step 7: Use Sound

In the same way smudging can break up stagnant energy, sound works in a similar way. Try ringing a bell in each room, focusing on the corners. Whilst bells are more fun, clapping works too. The idea is to loosen up the energy so it can move out of your space.

Step 8: Make Your Bed

Wake up, make bed. Easy peasy.

It doesn’t have to be perfect, start out by just pulling the covers back. This action will help keep your mind free of clutter, so you feel lighter and appreciative when you come home after a long day.

Step 9: Get Salty

There are a few ways to use salt to remove negative energy from your home. Instagram worthy Himalayan salt lamps are a great place to start. Personally, I like to pour a salt into little bowls and place them on the floor of my apartment, leaving them there for a few days. Make sure they’re in corners or out of the way to avoid kicking them over.

Why salt? It absorbs any negative energy. If you have more time on your hands and really want to indulge, add 2 cups of salt and a few drops of your favorite essential oil to your bath to cleanse and renew your personal energy.

Step 9: Place Crystals Around Your Home

I’m a big fan of Rose Quartz, a crystal of love, so often place it on my windowsill. Not exactly conventional, but it makes me think that only loving energies are entering my home and any negativity I’m releasing out the windows is done so with love.

Selenite is also useful, as it raises the vibration of your space, cleanses and protects.

Last but not least, it’s always a great idea to have some Black Tourmaline in your home or office. It clears negative energy and, unlike many other crystals, it’s self-cleansing. This means you don’t have to worry about it getting filled and saturated with bad vibes. It absorbs electromagnetic energy, so it’s great to keep on your desk near your laptop, or close to your TV.

Step 10: Toilet Lid Down

Not only will shutting your toilet lids stop your new bottle of dry shampoo (‘poo, how fitting) from being knocked in (true story. Waaaah!), but it’s also believed to prevent loss of chi, or life force, from being carried away through drains.

There you have it. 10 steps to have a home full of positive vibes and rid of negative energy.

The road to a zen, balanced home doesn’t have to be hard. It’s crucial to your overall wellbeing and happiness, so worth trying these quick tricks.

Personally, I’d been avoiding writing this article allllll morning. Looking around, I had 3 pairs of shoes strewn across my living room, an unmade bed and dirty dishes piled up. I went through these steps and zoooooom! My apartment was fresh and decluttered, and I’m feeling productive, uplifted and… lighter.

I’m happily enjoying one of my favorite sounds… the cheerful tap tap tap of a keypad.
