In 2005, Dave Chappelle famously turned down $50 million to continue working on his enormously popular — and incredibly influential — Comedy Central series “Chappelle’s Show,” instead opting to completely disappear from the limelight for a prolonged period of time.

Last night, he went on The Late Show with David Letterman for the first time in 10 years; opening up a little bit about why he left (according to Chapelle he didn’t quit, he’s just 7 years late to work), and whether or not he regrets turning down $50 million dollars. In a sea of fascinating Late Show interviews, this is certainly one of the most compelling this year.
