5 Things You Shouldn’t Say To A Fat Chick

By

As a follow-up to this article about skinny chicks and what they would rather not hear from those with large pie-holes who can’t keep their thoughts to themselves, I figured that the larger of the world’s lovely ladies should be highlighted as well. Not everyone can control their weight; rather it be because they have issues with medication, medical problems or just plain old food cravings. Who are we to become judge, jury and ultimately… an emotionally-damaging executioner?

1. “You’d be so much prettier if you lost weight!”

Seriously? I would like to know how a woman becomes “prettier” if she lost a few pounds. I have yet to see any lady with some extra meat on her bones transform into a sasquatch in front of my eyeballs…if she did, my ass would be running for the hills. This is the problem with the mainstream perception of what beauty constitutes. I would much rather see one of my feisty and lovely friends who aren’t bone-thin grace the cover of Vogue than an actress or model who offers nothing to the public except a photo-shopped image or vapid romantic comedy.

2. “You’re really gonna eat that?”

I’ve heard this question directed at friends while at dinners and parties. My question is one simple word; why? It doesn’t matter if you are eating a canapé or a double-meat cheeseburger with a side of chili-cheese fries. Everyone has different appetites and eating habits. If you don’t like what someone else is eating, it isn’t your business. Period.

3. “I’m selling this new weight-loss product, you should try it.”

It’s the “in” thing now to advertise weight-loss products on social media via those we know, which is all well and fine. Post one status about gaining weight while on a diet and the vultures circle. While that in and of itself isn’t a problem, it’s the hidden subtleties that worm their way into someone’s sub-conscience and lay their little eggs of doubt. Those eggs say, “It’s obvious I need to lose weight because this person thinks so.”

4. “Why don’t you work out?”

I guarantee you that no matter a woman’s size, she knows she needs to exercise more. The standard of beauty thrown at women while she simply stands in the grocery store line staring at Cosmo is bad enough without being told she needs to start jogging by a well-meaning friend. Of course it’s important that we all be in shape, yet being in shape is different for everyone. Most friends I know who weigh more than I do are much healthier than I am. Healthy bods are deceiving.

5. “Girl, you’re hot no matter what.”

What does “no matter what” mean? It means because you’re good-looking for “your size” and that you’re a cool chick…yet it doesn’t mean jack ass. The people who reside in fantasy-land love to say, “She has such a pretty face. It’s too bad she doesn’t lose weight” are buying into the media’s perception of what is considered acceptable in today’s world. That is the real meaning behind the phrase and it won’t get any better any time soon without others, especially women, appreciating each other’s differences and looking into the inside instead of the outside.
