Stop Looking At The World With Rose-Colored Glasses

Stop looking at the world with rose-colored glasses.

That was the best advice I ever received. I didn’t know it at the time. I understood it. But I wasn’t ready for it yet.

Stop looking at the world with rose-colored glasses. Yes, those pretty glasses that overlook all the flaws. The glasses that you want so badly to believe. Stop seeing things for what you want, instead of what they actually are.

We like to create ideas in our heads of the people we want. Of the relationships we aspire to have. And sometimes we create them so carefully in our head that we fight when we should really just let go. When we would be better off letting go.

Looking at the world with rose-colored glasses means having a big heart. It means seeing the best in people. It means looking at potential instead of what is in front of us. Rose-colored glasses can be pretty, but they’re harmful.

Rose-colored glasses allow us to settle. They allow us to fall into situations that are detrimental to our health. They put us in poor situations we don’t belong in. All because we can’t take them off.

So when you find yourself looking at the world with your rose-colored glasses, ask yourself why? Why are you ignoring reality? Why are you allowing something to hinder your progress in life? Rose-colored glasses can come in all different shapes and sizes in our lives.

I had rose-colored glasses on for a long time. I held onto a relationship that didn’t suit me. I saw the good in someone, who maybe wasn’t good. And someone else saw this. And told me this. She also said, we put our rose-colored glasses on and see the best in people. When you are ready to take them off, you will.

I did.

You will too.
