8 Reasons You Are Your Own Worst Enemy

1. Insecurities.

It will eat you alive. It’s like a parasite; it starts small, reproduces, until it takes over your whole being. Changes the way you are, the way you think, and the way you see things. It consumes you until you’re not yourself anymore.

2. Self-doubt.

Thinking that you cannot do something leads to failure. How did you know you couldn’t do it if you haven’t tried it? Do not doubt yourself to the point that it stops you from chasing your dreams and what you want in life. A little self-doubt is okay sometimes, that only means you’re human, but when self-doubt is too much then that is not going to get you anywhere. You’ll have too much what if’s and regrets in life. If you don’t believe in yourself, how can other people believe in you?

3. Comparison.

You know what they say; someone is always going to be better than you. But that does not mean you cannot be the best. Yes, the successful woman you keep comparing to yourself has everything that you want, you know why? Because she worked hard for it. So that means you too should work hard on what you want. It is not going to be easy. It’s going to be really hard, you may cry along the way but that’s okay.

4. Being too hard on your self.

Yes you failed, but doesn’t everyone? Tell yourself that it’s okay. What’s not okay is punishing your self. All you have to do is accept. Accept that sometimes things do not work out and that’s okay because you can always try again.

5. Excessive self-criticism.

This is unhealthy. You will just keep thinking and thinking but not really going anywhere. It will drain you till you don’t have enough confidence anymore. The world is already full of people who criticize, do your self a favor and stop being a self-critic. Let other people do it for you but never criticize your self. Be your number one fan.

6. Comfort zone.

You live everyday thinking “this is as far as I got”. Stop it. As long as you are alive, you keep going. It’s true that life begins at the end of your comfort zone. Believe me, you don’t want to live life doing the same thing everyday. I’m not saying go crazy, just try something new and go from there. You’ll be surprised what you may find, you might even find yourself.

7. Afraid to show who you are.

Don’t be. Yes, people are going to judge you and they will no matter what you are or what you do so might as well be your self. People who truly loves you will accept you no matter what so there is really no reason to be afraid. The people who care and loves you are the only ones who matter.

8. Procrastinations.

You keep delaying things assuming that there is a tomorrow. One day there is not going to be a tomorrow. You are the only person who can make things happen in your life. YOU, YOUR SELF and no one else. So do not procrastinate. If you can do it now why do it tomorrow.

And the list goes on. I know all this because I used to be all those things. The best moments in my 21 years of existence is where I overcome those that are on the list, when I finally won against my self. My early life was hard. I was too shy, no confidence, no voice, I let other people put me down, but when I entered college everything changed. I got too tired of being invisible. Then I realized that my ultimate rivalry is myself.

So I made an effort to change my path. So here I am writing, expressing my thoughts and sharing my story that I know a lot of people can relate to. I am not famous or anything but I am definitely a somebody to a lot of people. I am not invisible anymore and I am definitely living other than just being alive. I am still fighting my battle and I am definitely winning. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
