Love can be described in so many ways. Different people describe love in different ways depending on their experience with love. I think that the way you see love has something to do with the way you experienced it, and base on my experiences; I disagree with these cliché love sayings. Everyone has his or her own opinion and this is mine.
1. Love is blind
Everyone has heard of the cliché saying, “Love is blind.” When little girls fill up those popular slam books there is usually a question that says, what is love? And most little girls would write, Love is blind. I was one of those little girls. But growing up, I began to view love in a different way. Now, I don’t think love is blind. Love is a lot of things but it is not blind, it is anything but blind. Love is the only thing that sees everything clearly. It sees a person for who he/she is. So love is definitely not blind, what it is is that it accepts. It sees and it accepts.
It sees all your flaws, negatives, bad side, ugly side but it doesn’t really matter if you love someone because after all nobody is perfect. Even the people that you love will disappoint you, hurt you, and surprise you with things you never thought that they are capable of doing, it’s just a matter of acceptance. People do bad things everyday but that does not mean that they are a bad person. The same concept with love, pain and damage is inevitable but that does not mean that love is not present. Love sees all that. Love knows all that. Everyone who has ever been in love would understand.
2. Love conquers all
Well not really. I used to think that when I love someone, that someone would be mine forever just because our love conquers all. But life thought me that it’s not that simple. Lovers and even family or friends will have to go through a lot to conquer all. Sometimes it’s going to take more than love to conquer anything.
Few examples are Patience, Trust, Faith, Courage, etc. That’s why there is a song by Patty Smith that says “sometimes love’s just ain’t enough”. There has got to be something else other than love for two people or for people to conquer whatever they’re going through. And if they were not able to overcome, that does not mean that there was no love. Love maybe just wasn’t enough.
3. Love knows no boundaries
And that is why sometimes it does not last. Everything should have boundaries, limits, rules, and restrictions. Even life itself has boundaries. I guess this saying is taken seriously by others that is why they do things such as cheat, because there are no “boundaries” in love. What I’m trying to say is love is not supposed to break rules. The boundaries that I’m pointing at are the ones concerned with values, morals, and respect. It should know when it’s not doing any good anymore.
But at the end of the day, Love is Love. It is what it is. I do not know where those sayings came from, are they from a song, or a book. All I know is that I grew up hearing it and believing in it at some point of my life. But opinions change and you learn as you grow.
