Even Now, I Choose You

It’s as simple as the words themselves: I choose you. I choose you in your best light, when you’re smiling and full of joy. I choose you when you’re spontaneous and want to get away for the weekend with no plans or place to go. I choose you when your conversations are bountiful and you can’t wait to share them with me. I choose you when your arms are open wide to give me tight hugs that only you can give. I choose you when you roll over at night and pull me close to you. I choose you when you’re listening to music that makes you feel alive and you radiate that energy that draws me in to dance. I choose you when you’re not with me but I wake up to a “good morning beautiful” text. I choose you when I am having a bad day and stumble upon a handwritten note that says, “I love you baby,” and my day suddenly gets better. I choose you when I walk into a room and you fall in love with me all over again. I choose you because you are a rare treasure to me and your love makes me feel like a millionaire.

I choose you when the stress of life is getting the better of you and all you want to do is shut down. I choose you when the pain of your past is unbearable and you can’t fight the tears. I choose you when work gets the better of you and you would rather have a drink than talk to me. I choose you when you push me away and you would rather be alone. I choose you when you’re angry and you don’t know how to cope. I choose you when you don’t include me and go out with your friends. I choose you when life is kicking you down and all you want to do is run. I choose you when I don’t know what you need and you ask for me to give you space. I choose you when I have to let go and I’m not sure if the roads will lead back to me. I choose you when I am hurting like hell and all I can do is bleed on the inside and trust in love.

I choose us even when you don’t. I choose us when all the signs point to me giving up. I choose us when my heart aches to be near you but I must let go. I choose us silently on days I want to reach out but don’t because I have faith in time. I choose us because I trust in my heart. I choose us because there is so much I need to say and I believe in us. I choose us when I am hanging on by a thread and the weight of staying is too heavy. I choose us when my heart feels like giving way but being with you feels like home. I choose us because every song I hear are words that remind me of you and I can feel you. I choose us because you bring me joy more than I have ever known and I will never be the same. I choose us every time I hear the wind chimes sing and remember the way you used to look at me. I choose us on all the bad days; I choose us on all the amazing days. I choose us on all the days apart, because I can’t wait to find you by my side. I choose you because I love you.
