Some people have a presence that can fill the room, even if they do not take up a lot of space. These ladies are living proof that you should not judge a book by its cover. These inspiring ladies prove that size does not matter. As a woman who stands 5’2″ tall, I know that big things come in small packages.
1. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga’s powerful voice filled the stadium when she sang the Star Spangled Banner at the Superbowl this year. She turns heads with her dresses made of meat and bubble wrap. But did you know that Lady Gaga is only 5’1″ tall? How can all of that personality come out of that little body? She makes no apologies for being different. Since she was bullied when she was younger, she encourages young people to be themselves. She is also an LGBTQ activist. As she emerges from her own gigantic womb in her music video, she shouts at the top of her lungs, “I was born this way!”
2. Christina Aguilera
Since her Mickey Mouse Club days, Christina Aguilera has proven to everyone that she is a, “Fighter.” No one would ever guess that she is only 5’2″ tall. For years, she has been known as, “The Voice.” She has encouraged women to challenge gender stereotypes. She was criticized for her music video, “Dirrty” in 2002. Then in her music video, “Can’t Hold Us Down”, Christina told everybody that she was tired of the double standards. She said that it is unfair for society to praise men for being sexual, while women are criticized for it. In addition, she spoke out against bullying, when she told us that we are all, “Beautiful” just the way we are. From Disney, to Dirrty, to Demure, it has been interesting to see her transform over the years. Her amazing voice, combined with her incredible energy, has always captured her audience’s attention.
3. Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato also made her first debut on the Disney Channel. However, there is no question that she has come a long way since then. Demi Lovato is only 5’3″ tall. It’s hard to believe that when hearing her passionate, forceful voice in her song, “Heart Attack.” She has been open about her past struggles with anorexia nervosa and bipolar disorder. She is currently a mental health activist, and speaks out against bullying. As she jumps out of moving vehicles in her new music video, she asks everybody, “What’s wrong with being confident?”
4. Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj did not start out on the Disney Channel. She was born in Jamaica, Queens. She is hardcore, and everybody knows it. Nicki Minaj is a talented hip-hop artist who is well known for her, “Super Bass.” She does not beat around the bush, and she has an entire song dedicated to her butt. But did you know that she is only 5’2″ tall? Nicki Minaj has not been afraid to voice her opinions on racism and sexism. She feels that black women have been treated unfairly in the music industry. Nicki Minaj may not be scraping the sky, but when she enters the room, you know that she is there!
5. Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande got started on Nickelodeon, playing, “Cat” on the show, “Victorious.” However, she is not as submissive as the character that she played on TV. Although her last name, “Grande” means, “big” in Italian, she only stands 5’0″ tall. Ariana Grande has also addressed double standards that women face in society. She is known for her high notes, and her larger than life personality. While she plays the trumpet in her music video, she tells everybody to “Focus” on her!
