You Can Choose Who Gets To Love You

By

I don’t really believe in love at first sight. I believe in having feelings at first sight – that weird “butterflies-in-your-stomach” feeling you get when you see someone you’re attracted to. Meg Cabot called in fission in All American Girl. Filipinos call it kilig. It’s a feeling, but it’s not love. Feelings fade, love does not.

Love goes much deeper and further than happy feelings. Love is forgiveness. Love is sacrifice. Love is keeping your patience no matter how angry you are. Love is being there no matter what. Love is when they choose you over anyone else. Love is staying even if the happy feelings go away.

When it’s the right person, you won’t have to think about it, you won’t have doubts, and you won’t have to convince yourself or anyone else. Love with the right person is like puzzle pieces effortlessly falling into the right places.

So, let’s clear things up. You can’t choose who you have feelings for, but you can choose who to love, and you can choose who gets to love you.

You can choose to be with someone who belittles you, who hurts you, or who always takes you for granted, or you can choose someone who will treat you as their most precious gift, who will love you more than anything in the world, and who will always make time for you.

Don’t tolerate someone who treats you badly just because you are afraid that no one else will love you. Don’t let someone keep stepping on you when you were made for something so much greater. Don’t settle for someone who comes and goes whenever they want when you can wait for someone who will choose to stay.

If you find yourself in a relationship that is draining all your energy from you, leave.

You deserve better.

You deserve someone who will make you bloom and rise into your greatness, who will push you forward instead of pulling you back. You have the power to choose who gets to love you, and the best person to love you is yourself.
