Melissa McCarthy is a beloved actress and comedian to millions of people, but she also consistently faces her fare share of criticism, much of it about her appearance. While on Ellen recently, McCarthy shared a story about her interaction with a reporter who had spoken harshly of her, and what she said to him that made him rethink everything.

According to McCarthy, tearing women down is just “a bad habit that we’ve gotten into. And it’s not that people are malicious, I just think it’s so easy to take a swipe.” But she used patience and understanding to make at least one critic think about it all a little differently.
